Day 24, 17 July. Montalieu Vercieu to Culoz 76kms

It  started off very cool today as we were in the  shadow of the mountain range. We could see the sun was up but it had not peeped over the mtn yet so the air was very crisp.
Today was pretty much a transit stage on our way to Geneva. Should arrive there on Thursday we think. The scenery was stunning with beautiful mountainscapes all around and the Rhone beside us.

The ride was mainly along the bikepath with some meanderings onto the road from time to time. Drivers are very good to us, generally give plenty of room when they overtake or just sit behind us and wait until it is safe.
There were a few nasty rises when we were on the road to keep us honest but that is good to keep the heartrate up.
We had our second personalized navigator today. We asked directions from some other riders who said they spoke ‘not much English’. As it turned out we were able to communicate quite well with them. They told us to head up the road and take the first right turn. We were hesitating as to where to go next when one of the riders arrived and said ‘follow me’. So we gratefully followed her for about a km and she put us onto the main road and away we went.
It is great to have a personal guide in some circumstances as the signage is not always clear. Also saves us doubling back on the bikes. Not so bad in a car but not for the biker!!
There were a few other bike tourists out today but not in the numbers we saw last year in Germany and Holland last year.
We arrived at a lovely camp at about 2 o’clock so we have had a relaxing afternoon at the camp.

  1. Well done everyone. Enjoy the weather. - we are having a solid run of minus mornings - will be minus 5 here (again) tomorrow for the regular Saturday morning ride! Le Tour has been almost as good as your Tour! Feel for Cadel, but he has been out mastered by Wiggins and especially Sky. froome is actually best Tour rider! Look forward to more posts. Blessings from us, kelvin and Julie
